On October 28-29, in Belgorod-Dniester city was held an extraordinary congress of «People’s Rada of Bessarabia».

The participants cast an affirmative vote for the Declaration, which, in particular, said about the reunification of Ukrainian Bessarabia and Gagauzia and the revival of «Budjak» republic.

«We are socially active residents of Southern Bessarabia and Gagauzia united by a common purpose of restoration the historical justice, improving security and living standards of citizens, express the desire to recreate the Bessarabian republic «Budjak». We see in the implementation of this act historical and social justice, as well as the only reliable guarantee of our security».

Simultaneously with the Congress on October 29, in Gagauzia was held a rally in support of the recreation of Bessarabian republic. «We are for Budjak» — chanted the participants of the rally. Activists held signs: «Yes for Budjak!», «Salute to People’s Rada of Bessarabia».

SBU considers «People’s Rada of Bessarabia» as anti-Ukrainian organization. Many activists, including journalists Artem Buzila and Elena Glischinskaya, were arrested and sentenced to long prison terms. At the same time one of the PRB leaders Alexey Litvinenko stated that «Rada (Bessarabia — Ed.) has enough strength to resist the pressure of the SBU».

From the XVI to XVIII century «Budjak steppe» (territory of Gagauzia and Ukrainian Bessarabia) was independent, but under the protectorate of the Ottoman Empire.
