About a thousand people are picketing the building of the Appeals Chamber in Chisinau, where the lawyers of former PM of Moldova Vlad Filat appeal against a court decision on his arrest, reports RIA News.


All the approaches to the Appeals Chamber are blocked. Near the courthouse gathered two large groups of protesters. According to the police, in a demonstration involved about 600-800 people. Protesters shout slogans: «Filat, bring the money back!», «Thieves to jail», «Return a billion».


Filat denies the accusations. He expressed the view that the situation in which he found himself is a planned action of political opponents, namely the well-known entrepreneur, vice chairman of the Democratic Party Vladimir Plahotniuc, which Chisinau media called as «an oligarch» and «gray cardinal of the Moldovan politics».


Last week, members of the Moldovan Parliament voted for deprivation of leader’s of the Liberal Democratic Party immunity, who is the core of the ruling pro-European coalition. Former PM Filat is suspected in corruption and involvement in the withdrawal of funds from the banking and financial system of the country.


Liberal leader was immediately arrested and sent to jail for 72 hours. On Sunday, the District Court of Chisinau decided to extend the provisional arrest for 30 days.
