Migration crisis in the European Union has put a society on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe, said the chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok on Tuesday.


«We are on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe», — he said, opening the hearing at the European Parliament in connection with the migration crisis.


On Monday, interior ministers of the EU countries at an emergency meeting in Brussels, agreed on the principle of distribution according to their countries for two years 34 of 40 thousand refugees who arrived to Italy and Greece.


The European Commission has developed proposals of national quotas for refugees admission from the Middle East and Africa in the next two years, with which Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia still didn’t agree.


Since the beginning of 2015 in the EU came about 500 thousand migrants, each day their ranks are replenished with thousands of new arrivals. The European Commission said that the current immigration crisis in the world is the biggest since the Second World War.
