PORVOO — Porvoo City Council has decided to acclaim the establishment of the reception center for asylum seekers in Porvoo. The reception center is planned to be equipped in empty Johannisberg nursing home.

However, the actual start-up date of the reception center activities depends on the Immigration Service’s decision and the Finnish Red Cross (SPR) capacity. Porvoo intends to rent the premises for a reception center on the use and maintenance of the center which has been discussed by the Finnish Red Cross and the EU.

Accommodation capacity is 150 people. Mayor Jukka-Pekka Ujulan evaluated council meeting to say that, in practice Porvoo must be prepared for the fact that in the future amount of the newcomers may rise.
